I appreciated that because while, yes, our main character, Olivia, is investigating the murder of one of her friends, the story didn't call for anything "creepy" or anything other than what Donne gave us. But when their plans get derailed and one of the Ivies is killed, things start to look grim for the rest of the girls.ĭonne's atmosphere felt very prestigious, and it never veered into the realm of "creepy" the way that I can imagine some other dark academia novels do. They've spent their time at Claflin knocking down their competition so that they are guaranteed one of those Ivy League spots. We follow a group of girls at a prestigious private high school, and each of them are vying for a spot at each of the Ivy League universities. With that being said, I did enjoy THE IVIES, and I found the premise to be interesting and compelling. I will preface this review by saying that I haven't read any other dark academic novels so I don't have a wide breadth of things to compare this novel to. This is really the first time I've dipped my toes into the world of dark academia, and I can't say that I'm mad about it.
